Millhaven looks like any other city.

Glass towers catch the morning light. Buses run late. Coffee shops fill with the same tired faces every Monday. Nobody looks twice at the girl who slips through Kesting Row with her hood up, or the man drinking alone in a bar in Old Millhaven, still wearing yesterday's shirt.

But underneath the ordinary, something older is watching. A city within the city. A truth carefully hidden behind locked doors and careful smiles, guarded by people who have convinced themselves that control and safety are the same thing.

She has spent years learning how to disappear.

He has spent almost a year learning how to keep breathing.

Neither of them is looking for the other. Neither of them believes in ghosts.
