Felicity's Last Goodbye is a Canadian ghost story about grief, memory, family, and the bonds that remain after death. Blending family drama with a quiet supernatural mystery, it is written for young adult and adult readers who prefer hauntings rooted in character, loss, and love rather than spectacle.
The Story
After loss fractures the Mills family, Felicity enters a world of orphanages, unfamiliar schools, and adults carrying secrets of their own. She is not entirely alone. A watchful presence follows her through the winter, offering comfort, warning, and fragments of a past she cannot yet understand. As new friendships form and hidden connections surface, Felicity must discover why the dead have not let go and what final truth has been waiting beside her all along.

The novel moves between an Edmonton winter, a rural Alberta farm, St. Felicity's orphanage, and Everbrook School. Its supernatural element remains intimate, emerging through a beloved stuffed rabbit, unexplained companionship, and a narrator whose identity changes the meaning of everything that came before. Themes include sibling bonds, bereavement, adoption, institutional care, forgiveness, and the complicated forms a family can take.
Behind the Story
I wanted to write a ghost story in which the spirit was not simply a source of fear. I was interested in the idea that love, grief, and memory can remain present even when a child does not yet have the words to understand them. The story also returns to themes found throughout my work: children navigating systems larger than themselves, family secrets, and goodbye as an act of love rather than abandonment.
