About the Book

Persephone is the fourth novel in The Shards series and a warmer, more reflective departure from the series' bounty-hunter noir. Told largely through the past, it reveals how a young Cera was pulled from 2026 Earth into the city of Persephone on Vaeldrin and became part of the classified project that shaped everything to come.

The Story

Young, newly displaced, and still years away from the hardened investigator readers know, Cera arrives in a universe where her existence should be impossible. The Vahr'Na researchers and religious guardians of Persephone study and shelter her with genuine curiosity, caution, and disagreement rather than the exploitation she will later face in Carth. As Cera learns about Sorai and the forces that carried her through shard-space, the full context of Board Directive Black and Sable Koro's purge begins to emerge. What looked like cruelty was also panic over what Cera's bloodline might someday produce.

More of the Story

Persephone slows the series down long enough to show the person Cera was before war, prosthetics, and bounty work remade her. It explores displacement, cultural discovery, the Persephone Project, Vahr'Na philosophy, and the possibility that power does not have to become a weapon. The book also plants the first clear image of the gentler world the series will eventually fight to create.

Behind the Story

Cera's past needed more than a revelation. I wanted readers to meet the young woman who arrived from Earth before survival carved her into someone harder. Persephone lets the mystery breathe and asks how a person changes when she is stranded in a world that should never have been able to receive her.

Book Summary

Persephone uncovers the origin of Cera's impossible life in the Shard-verse. It is a story of exile, discovery, and the choices that transform a displaced young woman into the survivor who will one day challenge Carth.
